GENEVA, N.Y.--Hobart College’s first 14 NCAA national championship lacrosse teams will be honored on Memorial Day Weekend at the 2011 men’s lacrosse national championships in Baltimore. The 1976 and 1977 Statesmen will be recognized at halftime of the Division II championship game, while the Hobart’s unprecedented championship streak that ran from 1980 through 1991 will be honored at the half of the Division III title game.
The NCAA Division II championship game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 29, with the Division III game following at 7 p.m. Both contests will be played at M&T Bank Stadium.
The Statesmen played in the first five Division II championship games, winning consecutive crowns in ’76 and ’77. No Division II team has won more than two straight titles.
Hobart won the first 12 Division III championships. The next longest streak of NCAA championships in men’s lacrosse is three shared by Johns Hopkins (1978-80 in Division I), Middlebury (2000-02 in DIII), Princeton (1996-98 in DI) and Salisbury (2003-05 in DIII).
The Statesmen also won the 1993 NCAA Division III national championship. That squad will be honored at the 2013 championship on the occasion of its 20th anniversary.
