ECAC Men's Lacrosse League Announces Weekly Awards for March 28
CENTERVILLE, Mass. (March 28, 2011) – The Eastern College Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse league has announced its weekly awards, for the period ending Sunday. Hobart College’s freshman Alex Love is the offensive player of the week while Loyola University (Md.) sophomore long-stick midfielder Scott Ratliff is the defensive player of the week. Despite playing in a losing effort, Ohio State University’s freshman keeper Greg Dutton has been name the rookie of the week.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF
THE WEEK
Love, a first-year attackman out of Geneva, N.Y. (Salisbury
School), helped lead the Statesmen to a 2-0 week, including a win
in their first ECAC matchup of the 2011 season. Early in the
week against Canisius, he recorded four goals, five points and
three ground balls (all career highs) on the way to a 10-8
victory. Saturday, Love added a second goal to his
game-winner that came with three minutes remaining in a close 8-7
win against conference foe Fairfield.
Defensive Player of
the Week
A sophomore from Marietta, Ga. (George Walton Comprehensive H.S.),
Ratliff helped spur the Greyhound transition game that was
essential for a 14-10 come-from-behind win this week over Mount St.
Mary’s. He assisted on two goals to accompany his
second half man-down notch, all coming in transition. Ratliff
added a game- and career-high six ground balls to aid
Loyola’s time of possession while climbing back from a
two-goal halftime deficit.
Rookie of the
Week
Dutton (Timonium, Md./Calvert Hall) picks up his second rookie of
the week honor of the season after a strong performance in net for
the Buckeyes against No. 3 Notre Dame. He tied his career
high for saves with 12 and kept OSU in the game by allowing only
eight goals to the Irish, just three in the second half, as the
Buckeyes made a come-back that fell short, 8-7.
