2010 All-ECAC Lacrosse League Team Announced
CAPE COD, Mass. — In a vote by the league coaches, two Loyola Greyhounds and two Denver Pioneers were honored with postseason ECAC awards, and those two teams dominated the All-ECAC selections. Loyola led the way with six first team All-ECAC picks and seven overall selections, and Denver had three first team selections and five overall honorees. Loyola senior Cooper MacDonnell has been named the 2010 ECAC Offensive Player of the Year, while junior Jake Hagelin has been tabbed the ECAC Goalkeeper of the Year. Denver's Dillon Roy was named the ECAC Defensive Player of the Year. After leading his team to an undefeated ECAC record, an NCAA Tournament appearance and a top ten national ranking, Denver's Bill Tierney earned ECAC Coach of the Year honors.
In addition, Ohio State freshman Logan Schuss was picked as the Rookie of the Year.
MacDonnell, the 2010 Preseason ECAC Offensive Player of Year, led the ECAC in game-winning goals with three. Despite missing three games with an injury, he still finished third in the ECAC in goals per game, scoring 22 goals in ten games for an average of 2.20 goals per game. A 2009 All-ECAC second team member, he was also sixth in the conference with 2.80 points per game. During the season, he was named ECAC Offensive Player of the Week twice (2/22 and 4/19).
Hagelin led all ECAC goalkeepers with a stingy 7.86 goals against average. The 2008 ECAC Rookie of the Year, Hagelin also boasted a .560 save percentage, which ranked third in the conference. He was honored three times during the season as the ECAC Defensive Player of the Week (2/22, 4/12, and 4/19).
Roy, the 2010 Preseason ECAC Defensive Player of Year, finished the regular season ranked fourth in the ECAC in ground balls per game, scooping up an average of 5.00 per game. His 80 total ground balls rank second in the conference. The senior defenseman is also one of the best face-off men in the league and currently ranks fifth in the ECAC in face-off percentage at .545. He has won 61 of his 112 restarts.
Schuss burst onto the scene for Ohio State and led the ECAC with 3.73 points per game. He finished his rookie campaign with 31 goals and 25 assists for a total of 56 points. He ranked second in the conference with 1.67 assists per game, and was sixth in the ECAC with 2.07 goals per game. Schuss was honored six times during the season, receiving ECAC Offensive Player of the Week recognition twice and ECAC Rookie of the Week honors four times. The six weekly honors are more than any other player this season.
Tierney guided the Pioneers to thier first ECAC Lacrosse League
title in their inaugural year in the league, becoming the first
team to accomplish that feat since Georgetown in 2000. The Pioneers
led the league in nearly every offensive category, including goals
per game, assists per game, points per game, shot percentage,
man-up goals, and man-up scoring percentage. In addition, they
committed the fewest penalties per game and had the fewest penalty
minutes per game - two signs of a well-disciplined team.
In addition to Loyola's seven selections and Denver's five selections, Fairfield also placed five players on All-ECAC teams, two first team players and three second team selections. Air Force had three selections, followed by Bellarmine, Hobart, and Ohio State with two selections apiece. Quinnipiac had one player earn All-ECAC recognition.

ABOUT THE ECAC Lacrosse League
One of the top-ranked conferences in Division I men's lacrosse, the ECAC Lacrosse League began competition in 2000 and enjoyed immediate success. In the league's 11-year history, members have earned 22 NCAA Tournament berths, and more than half of those selections (14 of 22) have been at large bids. A league team has advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals in seven of the league's ten years. In 2003, the ECAC had four teams qualify for the NCAA Tournament, a quarter of the 16-team field. In 2005, Hobart College and Loyola University (Md.) joined the ECAC. Fairfield University joined the league in 2006. In 2010, the league added Air Force, Bellarmine, Denver, Ohio State, and Quinnipiac.
