Columbus, Ohio - Mark Bergey will assume the role of director of operations for the Ohio State men's lacrosse team and former Buckeye captain Anthony Kelly has been named the team's volunteer coach, head coach Nick Myers announced Wednesday.

Bergey, who spent last year as the Buckeyes' volunteer coach, moves into the newly-created role of director of operations for the lacrosse program where he will manage team film and playbook, maintain databases, organize travel and alumni and friends events and help direct the Buckeye summer, winter and fall lacrosse camps. He is a 2006 graduate of Western New England College and was a four-year standout for the Golden Bears, serving as team captain as a senior and leading the squad to the ECAC Division III New England championships in 2004 and '05. Bergey spent two years as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator at his alma mater prior to joining the Buckeye staff.

"I would like to thank Gene Smith, Heather Lyke and our 2009 11th Man Club for making our director of operations position possible," Myers said. "We have been able to create the position entirely through our 11th Man Club members and our Buckeye lacrosse camps. I am very proud to announce Mark will be taking on this new role and responsibility. He has proven himself as a volunteer assistant in 2009 and will truly be a huge asset to the program in this new role in 2010. "

Bergey is excited to expand his role with the Buckeyes after a year as the volunteer coach.

"It is an honor to represent this new position in its inaugural year," Bergey said. "I want to thank Heather Lyke and Coach Myers for this opportunity to be a part of the Buckeye lacrosse family on a full-time basis. I am very excited about getting started this fall with the men and look forward to helping the team anyway I can in 2010."

Cleveland, Ohio, native Kelly, a four-year letterwinner for the Buckeyes from 2000-03 and a captain as a senior, remains one of the top faceoff players in the nation. A Major League Lacrosse all-star, Kelly has play in the MLL since 2006, spending three years with Los Angeles before moving to Chicago this past year, and has spent time in the National Lacrosse League and with U.S. Lacrosse. He currently works for STX, the equipment sponsor for the Buckeyes, and has spent time as an assistant coach at Harvard and as a coach at Hilliard Davidson High School.

"We are thrilled to welcome Anthony Kelly back to the family and expect he will make an immediate impact for us," Myers said. "Our face-off and wing play will be a real point of emphasis this fall and spring. Anthony is a great fit because not only is he currently one the very best face-off men in the country, but you will not find anyone more passionate about being a Buckeye."

Kelly is looking forward to joining the team on the sidelines wearing the Scarlet and Gray once again.

"It's an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to come back to my alma mater and coach at The Ohio State University," he said. "Coach Myers is an unbelievable coach and he has done an amazing job compiling a talented hard-working staff over the past two years. It is exciting to be welcomed into that family of coaches who I respect so much and to once again be a part of the Buckeye lacrosse family and the Ohio State tradition that goes with that."
