Ohio State Adds Dave Dobbins to Coaching Staff

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Dave Dobbins will join the Ohio State men's lacrosse team as an assistant coach, head coach Nick Myers announced Thursday. Dobbins joins the Buckeyes after serving six years as an assistant coach at Salisbury University (Md.) with one of the most successful collegiate men's lacrosse programs in the country.

"We are very excited to welcome Dave and his wife Erin to the Buckeye lacrosse family," Myers said. "We know coach Dobbins will have an immediate impact for us both on and off the field. He has a strong passion for the game and shares our philosophy of ‘family first' with our young men."

The 2005 Division III Assistant Coach of the Year will work primarily with the Buckeye offense, as well as the face-off specialists and special teams.

"I would like to thank Nick Myers and Associate Athletic Director Heather Lyke for taking the time to welcome me to the Ohio State family and for the opportunity to help build upon the previous success of the Buckeye lacrosse program," Dobbins said.  "I would also like to thank my family at Salisbury University, especially Jim Berkman, for providing me with the support and opportunity to grow and learn as a coach."

Dobbins served as an assistant coach at Salisbury since 2003. The Sea Gulls won four Division III National Championships and were a national runner-up once during Dobbins' tenure. He coached 47 All-Americans, including 19 at midfield, and five National Players of the Year at Salisbury. Prior to joining the Salisbury staff, he coached two seasons at the middle and high school level in New York.

Dobbins was a four-year letter winner at Colgate University.  The Webster, N.Y., native earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Colgate in 2001 and his master's degree in education from Salisbury in 2005. He has taught high school mathematics at two Salisbury-area high schools over the last five years.
