COLUMBUS, Ohio - Former Ohio State All-American Kevin Buchanan was one of 40 players who have qualified for the 2010 U.S. men's national training team, US Lacrosse announced Wednesday. The 40 players were selected from a group of 84 who participated in a three-day tryout at Bryant University in Rhode Island this week.
The players on the training team, who were chosen by a 14-member player selection committee, advance with an opportunity to compete in the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championship in Manchester, England, July 10-24, 2010. Team USA will compete in three training weekends during the fall of 2009. Following those weekends, the roster will be cut to the FIL-mandated size of 23 players for the tournament.
Buchanan, who made the cut as an attackman/midfielder, was a four-year letterwinner for the Buckeyes from 2005-08. A second-team All-American and GWLL Player of the Year as a senior when he helped lead the Buckeyes to a Great Western Lacrosse League title and quarterfinal berth in the NCAA tournament, Buchanan ended his career second in scoring in Buckeye history (97-78-175). Buchanan currently is on the roster of the Washington Bayhawks in Major League Lacrosse.
Former Buckeye Anthony Kelly also participated in the tryout, but did not make the 40-man training squad roster.
